These are my 3 short term goals :
1. Refresh my knoweledge within the studio.
2. Become more organised and structured and create a routine for myself and work.
3. Learn more about ligthroom and apeture.
These are my 3 Long term goals :
1. Upgrade my computer and buy new kit for my camera.
2. Be more conident about my work and be able to stand and talk about it without being really nervous.
3. Put my work on show either as an exhibiton or in a public building.

Within this lesson we also learnt about keeping our blogs up to date and using appropiate language, design and including other relevant things into the blog.

Personal Development Planning
In this lesson we looked at the work of Daniel Rosin and how he created pieces of art using/ making block and mirrors move whenever someone walked past a webcam that was installed in between it.
As part of a independant study we had to do we had to look at and find information out about a exhibiton in Manchester were Daniel Rosin's work is being shown.
Independant - Dark Matters
What is the exhibition theme ?
- The theme of this exhibiton was to bring the work of 10 internationally aclaimed tempoary artists. The works are united by themes of temporality, absence truth, mortality and wonder.
Where is the exhibition on at ?
- The exhibition Shadow Technology, Art is on at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester. It is showing until the 15th January 2012.
Where is the nearest train station to the Gallery?
- There are a number of train stations that are close to the Whitworth Art Gallery. They are either the Manchester Oxford Road station, Picadilly Station or Victoria Station. However after a bit of research it seems that Manchester Oxford Road is closest. However it is still a bit of away from the train station.
How much will it cost ?
- Admission to the Gallery is free. So it wont cost anything to get into the gallery and have a look round.
Why Might this exhibiton be relevant to photographers ?
This is some work by Daniel Rosin. I personally think that his work his interesting and has a unique techinque in how it is created.
This is a link to videos of his work that has been held in different gallerys.

    Education

  • 1985-Present He is a photographic artist, entrepreneur, educator and lecturer.
(Established Toronto image works, a darkroom rental facility, custom lab, digital imaging centre and new media computer traing centre)

How is their location related to their success?

The location of Edwward Burtynsky related to his success ecause most of his work involved photographing the different oil places and the photographs he is mainly known for are the ones of the oil works.

Who are their clients?

When trying to research who was Edward Burtynsky's clients nothing was showing up. However a lot of his work was about oil and water so my thoughts would be his clients that may belong to parts in that industry.

Have they published/ exhibited work? (With Detail)
Some of his work :
  • Ryerson Gallery and research centre was his first major exhibition.
Burtynsky Oil
  • London (March 23rd - June 10th)
  • Virginia (October 20th 2012 - January 8th 2013)

Burtynsky Oil has had many exhibits in various Countries over the lat couple of years.

Material World
  • Ontari, Canada (June 28th - October 29th)
Discuss the sytle of their photography : What kind of audience does it appeal to ?
- A lot of his work appeals to landscape photography and he concentrated on oil and water plants. Also it has  a theme through it.
- Appeals to the audience interested in the landscapes.

Has their work changed much over time?
Some aspects of his work have changed for example photographing more people and their living conditions whilst on a trip to japan.

Some of Edward burtynskys Work

This is a piece of work from Edward Burtynsky that is different from the styles that he was used to and known to produce. From my view this image is a dramatic change because he is more of a landscape photographer. However I think as a comissioned piece of work this is a good way of documenting what the life in a chinese factory is like and the situations that they work in. Below is a different image by Edward Burtynsky which was what most of his work was like.

This image was used on the front cover of "Manufactured Landscape" book.

Reflective Practice

Reflective practice involves thoughtfully considering your own experiences as you make the connection between knowledge and practice under the guidance of an experienced professional within your discipline.

5 ways of reflecting your work
-          Written
-          Video
-          Images
-          Voice Recording
-          Questions and Answers

Look at the We Are Slater P.R Company website.

You need to think about:

-          Skills you need to fulfill your career
-          Skills needed to keep ahead of changes and updates
-          Skills needed to move towards aspiration you hold for yourselves.

What have we learnt in the last 8 weeks?

Take two photographs that quickly show things about us.
My two pictures where of my friends because I spend a lot of time with my friends, I trust them, they are always there, and are like a second family I can turn to if anything goes wrong.

Case Study 2

Eric Bowman

‘I’m neither a food photographer nor a landscape photographer but one who likes to photograph anything that deserves it. The same rules apply.’
(Vogue American Edition, October 2011)

Joe Cornish
What education did they undertake?
Joe Cornish studied art at Reading University graduating in 1980.

How is their location related to their success?
From 1986-1995 Joe Cornish was responsible for all or the majority of images in over 30 travel books, so his location had a big impact on his career  due to most places that he travelled to where the main reason for him succeeding.
He continued to go travelling in various places which always had some success with it.

Have they won any competitions?
Throughout the research that I have done on Joe Cornish there seems to be no mention of him winning any competitions. However his early travel and landscape photography got accepted into Charlie Waite’s photo library. In 2006 Amateur Photographer honored him with their annual Power of Photography award and in 2008 he was made the honorary fellow of the Royal Photographic Society.

Who are their clients?
After working for the national trust in 1990 he started working as a freelance photographer for them. He then moved to North Yorkshire in 1993 where he began to work with Joni and Joe Essex who were his friends where in 1999 he started create calendars and cards.
Joe Cornish’s work/clients are mainly other photographers and members of the public.

Have they published or exhibited any of their work?
Joe Cornish’s work has been shown in many travel magazines which in a way is advertising.  He has also had a book called Joe Cornish- A photographer at work, this book explored and his philosophy and working methods
